Book Review: A Bargain in Silver by Josie Jaffrey

Another book review for you lovely lot!

The author of this beautiful book – Josie Jaffrey – sent me this book in exchange for an honest review, and honestly, I fucking loved it! (Josie, I know you will appreciate this on several levels… Ha!).

Synopsis

A deadly infection threatens to wipe out humanity. The only people who can stem its advance are the Silver, a vampiric race who offer a simple exchange: protection in return for blood and subservience. It’s not a deal that Emmy’s willing to make, but as her world burns around her she finds herself in the arms of the enemy and the line between oppressor and saviour begins to blur.

After an attack by the infected, Emmy is rescued by the handsome Drew who introduces her to the world of the Silver. Desperate to escape subjugation and confused by her attraction to him, she gathers what remains of her surrogate family and plans to make a break for freedom.

But despite her efforts to resist, she is drawn further into the intrigues of the mysterious Silver through the agency of their ruler, the Primus: Solomon. Emmy refuses to submit to the cold and detached Primus and an attempt on her life makes it clear that he is unable to protect her from the political machinations of his race.

As the connection between them deepens she must choose between her desire and her will to rebel, but can she trust his intentions when everyone is after her blood?

My Review

To start with, the book itself is outwardly beautiful… the cover is gorgeous – red and silver (doh!) with an illustration of our lead female character, Emilia (Emmy), on the front.

I honestly couldn’t get over how much I loved this book. I don’t want to compare it to another book, as it very much stands on its own; however, if you think along the lines of an adult Twilight with a splash of Fifty Shades Of Grey, you’re still about a hundred miles away… but closer than you were, before!

A Bargain in Silver is a paranormal romance, with dystopia and fantasy all rolled into one. It is well written, easy to read, and has everything that you could possibly want, including – vampires (Silver), weepers (zombies), a love triangle, sex, blood lust, love, swearing, and aggression. What more could you want?!

There is, however, the added complication that not all of the Silver are good guys. Also – the love triangle will have you shouting at your book in despair… No?!… Just me?! Okay! Well, it’ll have you wondering what the hell is running through Emmy’s mind, that’s for damn sure!

All in all, I fell completely in love with this book – the story, the characters, and Josie… her writing is fantastic, and she will now forever be one of my favourite writers. I have since downloaded the remaining 3 books in this series to my Kindle, and I started book number 2 – The Price of Silver – immediately after finishing A Bargain in Silver… like, I put the book down, picked my Kindle up, and carried on with the story, as if there was never a break!

I’d highly recommend A Bargain in Silver! I’d highly recommend the Solis Invicti Series in general, to be honest because I’ve no doubt that the entire series is fantastic!

I give A Bargain in Silver 5/5 stars.

I am actually really glad that I found your review! I have been seeing all of the hype about The Gilded King by Josie Jaffrey, but I didn’t know if I should read the first series, the Solis Invictus books, first. Thanks to your review, I think that I am going to postpone reading The Gilded King until I have at least read A Bargain in Silver.

Not really into fantasy type novels but this is a fantastic review regardless! I recently read “it ends with us” by Colleen Hoover and I’d highly recommend it! I wish I could read it all over again for the first time x

You’ve convinced me to check the series out. I almost didn’t want to read on after the synopsis– but I’m glad I did anyway. Thank you for providing such a provoking review without any spoilers!

Are you also a fan of dystopia novels?

I’m glad my review could help persuade you to check it out.

I am indeed. I actually did a review of a post apocalyptic /dystopia book last month ☺️
