Cinder by Marissa Meyer is 2012’s book for my 30 For 30 Readathon and I am so glad this came up. This book has been on my shelves for a while now so it’s about time I got round to picking it up.
CINDER, a gifted mechanic in New Beijing, is also a cyborg. She’s reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s sudden illness. But when her life becomes entwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she finds herself at the centre of a violent struggle between the desires of an evil queen – and a dangerous temptation.
Cinder is caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal. Now she must uncover secrets about her mysterious past in order to protect Earth’s future.
This is not the fairytale you remember. But it’s one you won’t forget.
I am so glad to have read Cinder and started The Lunar Chronicles series. I really did enjoy this retelling.
The sci-fi element to this story really added an interesting twist, Cinder being a cyborg and the story being set it New Beijing is an interesting concept. This is a story of friendship, romance, family feuds, sci-fi and identity crisis.
I loved Marissa’s writing style and I’m really looking forward to continuing with the series and finding out what happens next to Cinder and Prince Kai.
I rated this book 4/5 stars.
