We all love a good binge watch of a TV programme… right?!

Well, today, I’m going to share with you my favourite TV programmes. I have given an insight into my top 5, and also written a list of my other favourites, below.

I hope you enjoy, and I hope you find something new to watch.

The story revolves around two brothers – Sam and Dean Winchester – as they follow their father’s footsteps, hunting down evil supernatural creatures, such as monsters, demons, ghosts and many more whilst trying to save innocent people along the way. Continuing their “family business” after their father’s death, the brothers soon discover that the hunt doesn’t just involve ridding the world of evil beings, but also involves dealing with much more powerful creatures like angels, reapers, Lucifer, and even Death.

This is one of my all-time favourite programmes, and I started watching it when Season 3 was on. I’ve been hooked from the first episode, and from the legendary quote from Dean Winchester – “saving people, hunting things, the family business!”.

This series is now in its 13th season and it just keeps going. The relationship between Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) and Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) is outstanding. The brotherhood on screen is also expressed in real life (off screen) and they have amazing chemistry.

If you like 70’s rock music, muscle cars, supernatural beings, and a great plot with a little bit of comedy, this is the TV show for you!

One Tree Hill

Half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott trade between kinship and rivalry, both on the basketball court and in the hearts of their friends in the small but not so quiet town of Tree Hill, North Carolina. Lucas and Nathan do not start off on the best of terms, but through many hard times and struggles, find the best in each other. Drama, marriage, divorce, break-ups, death and so much more play a huge role in these brothers’ (and their friends’) lives.

Again, it’s another one of my favourites, but of a different genre. This drama series will have you hooked from the first episode. I’ve always been a fan of something a little different from the usual drama shows, but I really enjoyed this one. The casting was brilliant, and the storylines were outstanding.

As it finished after its 9th season in 2012, I was devastated to see it end. So much so that I bought the entire boxset on DVD and have seen it right through, 4 times!

If you enjoy dramas with relationships – plus friendships, basketball, and music – this is the show for you!

Pretty Little Liars

Set in the fictional town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, the series follows the lives of four girls – Aria Montgomery, Hanna Marin, Spencer Hastings, and Emily Fields – whose clique falls apart after the disappearance of their leader – Alison DiLaurentis. One year later, the estranged friends are reunited, as they begin receiving messages from a mysterious figure named “A” who threatens to expose their deepest secrets, including ones they thought only Alison knew. When Alison’s body is found, their disproven theory of her being “A” sends the girls back to square one and desperate to find out who is planning on ruining their perfect lives.

I literally finished watching this programme, last night, and I loved every second of it! I did get frustrated with not knowing who “A” was, but you do eventually find out… just stick it out!

PLL finished after their 7th season in 2017 with a 5-year “jump forward”, part way though season 6. Make sure you don’t miss that… it’s very important! Again, another amazing show with great casting and storyline! I spent an entire weekend binge watching seasons 6-7 because I wanted to find out what happened at the end, so badly!

This programme will have you hooked from the get-go and have you falling out and in love with characters, so fast that it’ll make your head spin.

If you enjoy drama, suspense and the odd hilarious sarcastic comment, you’ll love this programme!

Grey’s Anatomy

A medical drama centred around Meredith Grey – an aspiring surgeon and daughter of one of the best surgeons (Dr Ellis Grey). The doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital deal with life-or-death consequences, daily. It is in one another that they find comfort, friendship, and at times, more than friendship. Together, they’re discovering that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black-and-white; real life only comes in shades of grey.

I wasn’t expecting to get into this programme as much as I have. My parents watch programmes like Casualty and Holby City, and those have never been up my street. But I fell in love with Grey’s Anatomy, almost instantly. The characters, the storylines, the way they all keep you hooked… it’s amazing!

Currently in its 14th season and going into its 15th, Grey’s Anatomy is the gift that just keeps on giving!

If you enjoy hospital dramas with real life drama in the mix, this is the programme for you.

Grey’s Anatomy also has a new spin-off, which started this year (2018) that’s called Station 19 – following firefighters in Seattle.

Sex And The City

This programme is about 4 female New Yorkers gossiping about fashion, life, and their sex lives (or lack thereof) whilst finding new ways to deal with being a woman in the 1990s.

Quirky, funny and massively entertaining, I found this programme to be quite liberating. Despite the fact that this show began in 1998, a lot of it can still be relevant, today. As a woman in her late twenties – still single and baby-less – I thought now would be a perfect time to watch this programme, after seeing Sex And The City: The Movie, a few weeks ago. I related to the women, a lot and found myself wanting to be like Carrie Bradshaw – a writer, talking about things that mean something to her, trying to find love in New York City whilst falling in love with fashion, every day.

I would absolutely recommend this programme to women of all ages, if only for the entertainment factor of Samantha Jones who is outstanding and is absolutely my “spirit animal”!

  • Chicago Fire
