I want to talk to you about self-love. This is something I have struggled with for a very long time.

You see, I was always slim when I was younger, up until the age of about 17, when I was in college. My eating habits caught up with me, I passed my driving test, and I started to pile the weight on. I went from an underweight, very thin, tall girl to an overweight, but managing to hide it well, tall girl.

I have been a member of Slimming World for nearly 2 years now (for the second time) and in 2017 I was doing great. I started the year achieving my 2 stone award and I was on Cloud 9. However, in March 2017, I started to suffer with migraines. This, in turn, has impacted my life massively in many aspects, but mostly, my weight loss journey.

I stopped eating healthy, I started eating takeaways again because it was easier on days when I had a migraine (which was once a week). My health, in respect to my weight, just didn’t seem to be a priority any more.

Fast forward a year to now, my total weight loss is only 10lbs. Meaning I’ve put 1 stone 5lbs back on (2st 1lb was the most I’d lost). Honestly, I’m heartbroken. I’m really struggling to get back on the wagon. But despite this, I have persisted and I am still attending group and weekly weigh-ins.

Self-love isn’t just about how much you weigh or what your body looks like. It’s different for everyone. But for me, that has a lot to do with it. Despite the fact I don’t particularly like the way I look, I am trying really hard to be nicer to myself and better at self-love. After all, how can I expect anyone else to love me if I don’t love myself? Right?

Therefore, I have posted sticky notes with compliments I’ve given myself on my dressing table mirror and I am going to do a 30 day self-love challenge throughout March.

The challenge is as follows:

Day 1: Fill in your planner, set aside days for yourself.

Day 2: Make a list of things you like about yourself and add one new thing every day.

Day 3: Declutter your home.

Day 4: Clean out your closet

Day 5: Treat Yo’self

Day 6: Declutter your work space.

Day 7: Make a recipe you haven’t made before.

Day 8: Choose tomorrow’s outfit before bed.

Day 9: Apply a face mask.

Day 10: Take a bath – I rarely treat myself to a bath due to time so I always have a shower.

Day 11: Spend the day watching a movie boxset.

Day 12: Try Yoga.

Day 13: Write as many positive things about yourself as you can.

Day 14: Colour / draw.

Day 15: Buy yourself some flowers.

Day 16: Watch an old movie.

Day 17: Read a book you love.

Day 18: Visit a museum.

Day 19: Write down a 5 year dream plan.

Day 20: Go to the cinema on your own.

Day 21: Get rid of 5 things you don’t use.

Day 22: Go to bed early.

Day 23: Take a selfie and post it on social media.

Day 24: Discover new music.

Day 25: Go for a walk

Day 26: Write down 5 things to be happy about right now.

Day 27: Do a brain dump.

Day 28: Dance like no one is watching.

Day 29: Write a thank you note.

Day 30: How do I feel about me right now?

    Hey, I’ve also been a member of slimming world for almost the last year and it can be so hard sometimes! Life just gets in the way, I find it helpful to set mini targets. I love the idea of your 30 day self love challenge.

    Hey Steph.. I have come across your post at such a wonderful time when I so very much need to love myself more. I am in my 20s and I feel this phase is so crucial to mould a better image about yourself. I love how you have made challenge guideline. I am so going to try that out!
